Welcome to Nordic Walking in Winnipeg . . . also known as Urban Poling.
Nordic walking adds more to your walking workout by adding the upper body to the basic motor skill of walking. When you add poles, you are working 90% of your body's muscles! Think of it as doing a lower body and upper body workout at the same time!
Nordic walking has been popular in Europe for many years and is becoming more widespread in North America as people are becoming aware of the many health benefits.
WHO IS SUITABLE FOR NORDIC WALKING?
- people interested in a convenient, low-impact activity
- Avid walkers looking for more from their work out
- Walkers who do not have time for upper body resistance training
- People in weight-loss programs
- Cross-training
- Recovery from injury
- Individuals with balance or step difficulties
Urban poles provide balance and engage your core during walking. The ergonomic handle of our pole is designed for comfort, safety and core strengthening. It is the resistance that is applied to the base of the handle that activates the upper body muscles during walking. The handle also acts as a shock absorber minimizing the vibrations to the wrist, elbow and shoulder joints. Urban poles are adjustable making them suitable for travelling and walking on various terrains.
Lori Hildebrandt is a certified nordic walking instructor in Winnipeg. Contact her to book your lesson and also for information on purchasing poles.
